East Coast Artists Andy Brown and SoHo Ghetto Team Up for Another String of Tour Dates

New Brunswick folk-pop artist Andy Brown and Halifax indie rockers SoHo Ghetto continue to light up stages throughout central and eastern Canada on their tour together. With recent dates in Guelph and Toronto, they are continuing throughout November with dates in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Quebec.

Seperately, both Andy Brown and SoHo Ghetto have garnered high praise for their live performances, each bringing their own unique style and flare to the stage, but together they team up for an unforgettable night of indie-pop rock that is guaranteed to both warm your heart and get you moving at the same time.

Andy Brown delivers his signature electrifying live performances, filled with excellent guitar work and folk-pop songs that "get into your head and heart". His hit song ‘Ashes’ was featured in season 2 of Rookie Blue (ABC/Global), and within hours after the episode aired, Brown’s song and album had landed at #1 on iTunes Canada’s singer-songwriter chart, and the melancholy love song reached #2 on the chart in the United States. His music has also been featured in the hit new drama Saving Hope in August 2012, and will be used in an upcoming CBC movie, The Phantoms. Brown’s honesty as a songwriter, expressive showmanship, and soaring vocals has made him a fan-favourite wherever he performs, from a quaint theatre in North Carolina to the sprawling hall of Montreal’s Corona Theatre. With an new album set to be released in early-2013, fans can place their pre-orders now here (http://andybrown.ca).

The seven-piece indie-roots and folk band that is SoHo Ghetto present a live performance highlighted by artful arrangements, big harmonies, and hook-laden anthems. After a rousing performance at the Music Nova Scotia Awards gala, where their album was nominated for "Group Recording of the Year" and the band for "New Artist of the Year", 2012 can be named the year people are taking note of these indie up and comers. The Chronicle Herald recently reviewed, " SoHo Ghetto shows its mettle with a strong performance honed by rehearsing and recent touring, demonstrating how it earned Music Nova Scotia Award nominations..."

Both artists have been touted as 'bands to watch' so don't miss an opportunity to see them in your town. Tour dates and download links below.

AUDIO BLOOD – NOVEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER

Hey Audio Blood friends!

Fall has just started and we've been busy! We've picked up a few new great clients, and we have a lot of events coming up.  The Balconies are having a great time on tour across the West coast with Big Sugar and will be taking a brief break to play M for Montreal in November. Our 4th anniversary is coming up and our annual holiday party has been announced, and we're excited to have great bands like Amos The Transparent, Hands & Teeth, and Acres of Lions performing at the event.  We had an excellent time out East earlier in October with our Halifax Pop Explosion events, and it was great being a part of the 20th anniversary of HPX.  Thanks again to everyone who made it out, it was great to see all your faces again.  Here's a recap of whats been going on!

Audio Blood Turns 4, Announces Annual Anniversary and Holiday Rager at Sneaky Dee's

Audio Blood is excited to celebrate four amazing years of working with the top Canadian artists and brands, planning outrageous rooftop parties, and rocking the festival circuit coast-to-coast. What better way to celebrate than with an all-out birthday bash at Sneaky Dee’s with all of our friends? On December 7, 2012, please join Audio Blood in celebrating its fourth anniversary with a memorable night of music featuring Hands & Teeth, Amos the Transparent, Acres of Lions, Music Parlour DJs, and specials guests all night long!

“As we near our 4th birthday, it isn't so much OUR birthday as it is a celebration for anyone and everyone who has lent a hand in building this company and community from the ground up,” says founder and president of Audio Blood, Sari Delmar. “On December 7th, lets let loose for the night and enjoy the best things about Toronto - indie rock, nachos, beers, and friends. Thank you endlessly for being a part of this family and I look forward to celebrating many more years to come!”

Audio Blood won’t be the only ones with reason to celebrate. Aside from a kick-off to the holiday season, everyone’s favourite hangout Sneaky Dee’s is in the midst of celebrating its 25th anniversary. There really is no better venue in Toronto to celebrate the past year and what 2013 will have in store!

It’s been a crazy 2012 for all of the band’s taking part as well:

Hands & Teeth
With the early 2012 release of their debut album Hunting Season, Hands & Teeth treated fans to new song already, releasing ‘Exploring’ just a few weeks ago. The track was cut live off the floor for new musical project From Far and Wide. The band has also hit the road recently with dates on the east coast including Halifax Pop Explosion.
Watch the From Far and Wide session for ‘Exploring

Amos the Transparent
2012 marked the year the Ottawa seven-piece released their third album, Goodnight My Dear…I’m Falling Apart. Most recently the band performed on CBC’s Q with Jian Ghomeshi and showcased extensively during Pop Montreal and Halifax Pop Explosion.
Watch the official video for ‘Says the Spark

Acres of Lions
These Victoria, BC rockers are gearing up for an impressive 2013. This past year marked extensive touring in support of their sophomore album Collections, including recent touring from their hometown to Toronto.
Watch the video for ‘Reaction

Anniversary bashes have become something of a tradition for Audio Blood. It’s hard to believe the first one was in 2009! Get yourself in the spirit with this flashback video for the first Audio Blood Christmas featuring some great Toronto bands of the past and The Balconies - http://youtu.be/mdxQP0jnQzI

Come celebrate with us! Can’t wait to see you there!

The Balconies Release New Single and Video For "Do It In The Dark", Currently In The Middle of Massive Canadian Tour

Fan favourites The Balconies are pleased to release their new single and video for “Do It In The Dark”. Produced by Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven) and recorded at the Coalition Music studios, “Do It In The Dark” is a new take on an old favourite, and features the band’s signature sound with frontwoman Jacquie Neville’s vocals at the forefront and more prominent than ever. The spooky music video for the new track was directed by Alon Isocianu at Reactiv Pictures and has premiered on MuchMusic.com just in time for Halloween.

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "DO IT IN THE DARK" HERE

The Balconies have had a busy few months first with the recording of “Do It In The Dark” followed by a week-long stay in Los Angeles, California, representing Canada as one of three bands selected for FILTER Magazine’s 2012 Culture Collide Festival. From Los Angeles the group went right back on the road for a tour of western Canada first with Saskatoon’s Wide Mouth Mason, and now with blues-rockers Big Sugar. The band will be making long overdue stops in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, and more on their six-week tour, before taking part in this year’s M For Montreal festival in November. The Balconies are also pleased to announce an upcoming show in Toronto with U.S.S. as part of The Edge’s Jingle Bell Rock Concert Series to cap off the year.

The Balconies made Internet waves back in September when they released their Mojito Session collaboration with Toronto-rockers Hands & Teeth, on Justin Bieber’s megahit "Baby". If you haven’t checked it out yet you should do so here.

It’s no surprise that 2012 has been a whirlwind year for The Balconies - they released their Kill Count EP (Coalition/Warner) in February along with a music video for the title track, followed by a flurry of touring including festival stops at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Edgefest 2012 in Toronto, and additional dates opening for The Aggrolites, U.S.S., and Sam Roberts Band. Armed with a new track and video, and an extensive Canadian tour, The Balconies have their eyes on the next few months, and don't show signs of slowing down anytime soon. Canadian-British Experimental Group Flowers of Hell Release Covers Record Praised By Lou Reed

The Flowers Of Hell are proud to release their fourth album, Odes, an orch-pop covers record that received an early airing from Lou Reed on his New York Shuffle radio show.  Their current and past work has established them as an “artist’s artist”, with praise having come from members of The Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine, Spiritualized, Spacemen 3, The Wedding Present, The Patti Smith Group, The Fugs plus Laurie Anderson and others. ‘Odes’ features The Flowers’ interpretations of songs written by Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Siouxie & The Banshees, Laurie Anderson, Klaatu, Stereolab, Joy Division, Neutral Milk Hotel, Fleetwood Mac, and the Plastic People Of The Universe.

Based in Toronto and London, with a revolving membership of 16 or so musicians, the Flowers Of Hell are led by Canadian synaesthette Greg Jarvis who co-produced the album with Peter Moore (John Cale, Neil Young, Cowboy Junkies).  The album includes collaborations with British Sea Power’s Neil Wilkinson and Abi Fry (the latter being a founding member of the Flowers), as well as the Czech dissident musician Ivo Pospíšil, a key member of The Plastic People Of The Universe’s many offshoot groups. Despite it’s transatlantic influences, Odes qualifies as a Canadian-Content release.

Odes differs greatly in its tone and direction from previous Flowers’ releases. 2010’s O was an epic 45 minute abstract piece that sought to break beyond traditional songwriting; this time the group do the opposite, celebrating straight up songs as penned by their favourite writers. Known for their non-linear instrumentals, this is the first time the Flowers of Hell have released music featuring lyrics or verse-chorus-verse structures.

Each song covered on Odes was selected for a purpose. Jarvis had often wondered what Neutral Milk Hotel’s ‘On Avery Island-April 1st’ might sound like if played by a classically trained trumpeter. Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’ is a core influence on the Flowers of Hell’s style and it’s been done here with their signature sound. ‘Muchomůrky Bílé (Destroying Angel)’ is the unofficial anthem of the old Czech dissident movement and one of the original musicians from that scene, Ivo Pospíšil, agreed to do the vocals.

Before expanding into a full album, the initial sessions were intended to become a Lou Reed inspired EP, hence the record’s heavy Velvet Underground influence. With ‘Walk On The Wild Side’ the group used the lyrics from a rare Lou Reed demo taped before its classic verses were written. On 'O Superheroin', they celebrate the marriage of Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson buy marrying 'O Superman' and 'Heroin'. 'Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft' was written by 1970s Toronto outsiders Klaatu, with lyrics from a paragraph that the International Flying Saucer Bureau’s global members tried to simultaneously telepath into outer space in 1953. The result is a record that synthesizes great songwriting with the Flowers Of Hell’s epic genre bending arrangements.

Praise for Flowers of Hell:
“They take orchestral pop to the next level.” - Rolling Stone
“Stirringly evocative" - NME
“They balance stately chamber pop with noise.” - Pitchfork

Olenka and the Autumn Lovers Celebrate New Releases in London (Ontario) Tonight

music_ht_temp_720w

Olenka Krakus is London, Ontario's best kept secret. She is in the running for Canada's best kept secret, in a land where we are known for keeping our best musical artists under wraps while exporting the expendable ones to the U.S.

Tonight at the Talbot Street Church in London, Olenka and the Autumn Lovers will be celebrating two new releases. The first, a 7 song EP titled "Hard Times" and the second, "It's Alright" a 7" 45 rpm limited edition, color vinyl single.

The music, as we've come to expect, ranges from twangy alt-country style tunes to elaborately arranged semi-orchestral pieces, all over-layed with an Eastern European folk sensibility and Olenka's golden voice.

You can listen to Hard Times and It's Alright, as well as check upcoming tour dates at olenkalovers.com or Bandcamp. Backing the band in London tonight are London's Firehorse and Winnipeg's Jenny Berkel.

Coffee Shop Project: Pick of the Month “Movember” 2012 – The Mohawk Lodge

Audio Blood
presents
The Coffee Shop Project

Now that the city has recovered from mean ol’ hurricane Sandy, we can finally get back to our routines, and that means lots of coffee, lots of music, and lots of moustaches! Since it is Movember, we want to raise awareness about cancer research and treatment, and also support our love of moustaches. Teaming up with us to kick cancer to the curb is the Movember Coffee Shop Project pick of the month, The Mohawk Lodge.

If your coffee doesn’t quite wake you up in the morning, you can bet that the Mohawk Lodge will do the trick.  Damaged Goods, the 4th LP from the Mohawk Lodge, is their rawest and most energetic album to date. Inspired by summer nights, voodoo, long drives, and near-death experiences, Damaged Goods was conceived during a European tour, and written in a remote log cabin in Canada. Ryder Havdale, mastermind behind The Mohawk Lodge and owner/manager of White Whale Records, seeks to integrate everyone he knows into his music. Damaged Goods acts as an autobiographical soundtrack that changes players and sounds as Havdale changes cities and situations. For fans of The Constantines and Bruce Springsteen.

Damaged Goods is out now in Canada and available on 180-gram vinyl, CD and digitally at the White Whale Records store. Stop by any of the below independent coffee shops for a free download card from The Mohawk Lodge. The cards come complete with an inspiring photo of the Ryder sporting his finest Movember moustache.

DOWNLOAD AVAILABLE HERE:

www.csp.audioblood.com

Find out how you can participate, support, and donate to the cause by visiting the Movember webpage, www.ca.movember.com.

The Mohawk Lodge is on tour in Europe through to the end of the year and will return to Canada for a cross-country tour in the spring of 2013.

Elise Estrada and XOXO Entertainment Corp. release “Wonder Woman” song dedicated to the memory of Amanda Todd, to raise awareness about bullying.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Elise Estrada and XOXO Entertainment Corp. release “Wonder Woman” song dedicated to the memory of Amanda Todd to raise awareness about bullying.
All proceeds will be donated to ‘The Amanda Todd Legacy Memorial Fund’.

Vancouver, BC (October 23, 2012) - The story of Amanda Todd has touched us all. A local 15- year-old girl took her own life due to bullying. The tragedy hit home and immediately struck a chord in Pop Star Elise Estrada and hit producer/songwriter Adam H. Hurstfield. “We needed to do something to help these kids.” states Elise Estrada. Immediately, the XOXO team (along with Vic Levak) decided to use their talents by doing what they do best, and purely volunteered to create “Wonder Woman”, a song dedicated to honor Amanda’s legacy, and raise awareness about bullying. All of the proceeds of the sale of the “Wonder Woman” single will be donated to the “Amanda Todd Legacy Memorial Fund” to contribute to various anti bullying campaigns and Suicide Prevention. – “We need to change the world so no other person has to suffer in silence. We all have a voice and we need to stand up against bullying” proclaims Adam H.

Wonder Woman has already proven itself to be the voice of children who are being bullied. It was created to inspire our generation and generations to follow to stand up to stop bullying. Touched by the sentiment of what Elise and Adam H. were doing, Grammy Winner Orlando Calzada immediately volunteered to take some time off from working with the likes of One Direction and Lady Gaga to mix engineer the song. Another American superstar, Mastering guru, Larry Lachmann also stepped up to the plate to honor this sweet Canadian girl. Since then, Universal Music Canada has put aside various projects to rush to release the song to iTunes (available now), director “Ali Visanji” and his team have donated their time to create a music video to service to MuchMusic and various Television outlets, and many pop superstars have taken photos holding signs reading “RIP Amanda Todd” and “Just Like Wonder Woman”. Radio has also stepped up to the plate to support the cause, and “Wonder Woman” is already playing nation- wide. Amanda’s story has touched the globe.

“Something needs to be done so our kids, and our grandkids, never have to live through what Amanda Todd had to live through. When we grew up, the bullying ended when we left the playground, but with today’s technology and cyber-bullying, these kids are tortured day and night” says Hurstfield.

It is our hope that you too will want to make noise to honor Amanda Todd, and to help spread the message that bullying is a serious issue. We need to make a change so no other kid has to hurt this way. We all have a voice and we need to stand up now.

The Mohawk Lodge Releases ‘Damaged Goods’ Today!

Today marks the release of The Mohawk Lodge's 4th LP Damaged Goods. It's their rawest, shortest (the album comes in at 30 minutes on the nose), and most energetic album to date and draws on inspiration from several euro-wide tours and talent from across Canada. Inspired by summer nights, voodoo, long drives, and near-death experiences, Damaged Goods is a culmination of lyrical stories, anthemic hooks and pop licks brought to life live-off-the-floor in a Toronto heatwave by Ryder Havdale, Eamon McGrath, Clay Jones (Huddle), Scott Freeman, Danny Miles and Peter Dreimanis (July Talk). The final touches were done across the country with Jordan Koop (Emergency Room) at his new Noise Floor studio in Ladysmith, BC. It's an album brimming with energy that draws comparisons to such bands as The Constantines, Hold Steady, Ladyhawk and Gaslight Anthem.

Ryder Havdale, mastermind behind The Mohawk Lodge and owner/manager of White Whale Records, is currently travelling and touring Berlin. The Mohawk Lodge is on tour in Europe through to the end of the year and will return to Canada for a cross-country tour in the spring of 2013.

Damaged Goods is out now in Canada and available on 180-gram vinyl, CD and digitally at the White Whale Records store.

AUX TV Premieres Revelstoke’s Video For “Dans La Mer (Howl For Sade)”, Halifax Pop Explosion Performances Set For This Week

A throwback to the days of Victorian seaside intrigue where peculiarity reigned and anything seemed possible, Revelstoke's (also known as Andrew Seale) new video for "Dans La Mer (Howl for Sade)" premiered this morning on AUX.tv. The animated video and narrative closely echoes the old world folk combined with swirling voices, dancing harmonicas and tumbling layers of the track – an unusual and intriguing song.  “It's a cross between The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou and Le Voyage Dans La Lune careening helplessly through Sam's and my unusual and seahorse-obsessed minds,” describes Andrew of the final product created alongside friend and collaborator Sam Cole. The video can be seen here - http://bit.ly/V9VcbE

Revelstoke proves to surpass the signature musical tone of his last EP Esprit d’Escalier, as he shows admirably in his new  4-track release My-Oh-My. The sound is romantic and blends together the melody of a mandolin, bowed guitar and Banjo comprising Revelstoke’s collective feel. “Dans La Mer (Howl For Sade)” validates Revelstoke’s lyrical charm with a perfect blend of melodic allure to sail away into a daydream. The video for "Dans La Mer (Howl For Sade)" marks the beginning of another new release, and a significant success for the freelance dreamer, part time journalist and full time performer.

This month has brought new waves of success for the Toronto native, well known for his experimental folk lyrics and distinctive creative (and, at times, outright unusual) sound. Revelstoke’s EP release My-Oh-My will be released following his return home from a packed week at Halifax Pop Explosion. As the winter months bring shorter days and longer night, Revelstoke provides the ideal nautical sound for a seasoned day dream, sedated and affectionate in all the right tempos.

Oct. 20 @ The Company House, HALIFAX, 9PM (*Audio Blood HPX Showcase)

Camille Miller: Parallel To The Sea

It's time to start crossing off the days, no not Halloween, but rather November 1st; the CDBaby release date for Camille Miller's new album "Parallel to the Sea".

Two years in the making, our own globe trotting chika was here long enough to lay it down with some of our finest west coast musicians, including the late Mike Norman. Parallel is music for our time, something to put a bit of jump in your step as you cavort through the leaves with your jaunty hat a'la Lorelai Gilmore. The vibe is reminisce of Carole King's 'Where You Lead', and though not overly retro sounding (Let Go), it gives me that good 60's light effervescent, life-is-pretty-dang-good feeling.

It's a bit bluesy here and there, and has a bit of a pop snap (All About You) as Miller's trademark voice carries you through the sweet half dozen songs. A wee bit lighter than her 2008 offering 'Somewhere Near The Truth', Parallel's easy buoyancy lifts it to the top of my housecleaning/dancearoundthehouse/roadtrippingsingalong playlists. Also includes: 'Artificial Joy', 'Song By You' and 'Mountains and Moons'. 5/5

Tim Chaisson Releases Video For ‘Beat This Heart’, National Tour With Poor Young Things Kicks Off October 26

Fresh off the release of his fifth studio album, The Other Side (Bumstead), east coast native Tim Chaisson is pleased to release the much anticipated video for his single "Beat This Heart". Both the track and video feature acclaimed songstress Serena Ryder, with the song co-written by Patrick Ballantyne (The Trews, Big Sugar, Grady). The video premiered earlier this week on MuchMusic.com, and the single was recently added to SiriusXM. Tim Chaisson will embark on six-week coast-to-coast tour with Toronto rockers Poor Young Things with stops in Charlottetown, Montreal, Edmonton, Vancouver and more.

Watch the video for "Beat This Heart" here:

The Other Side [is] a handsomely crafted piece of work,” says The Guardian of Tim Chaisson’s latest offering. The Other Side marks his strongest release to date blending his signature golden vocals and guitar with a Maritime charm. The entire release was recorded at the Woodshed Studios in Toronto with producer Colin Linden (Bruce Cockburn, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings) capturing Chaisson’s raw songwriting and musical craftsmanship at its finest. Standout tracks including “Come Clean” and “Speak Easier” have become fan favourites during Chaisson’s four-stop CD release tour in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, and Charlottetown.

Having grown up in a music-centric family in the small town of Souris, PEI, Tim Chaisson quickly discovered not only a passion, but also a knack for music, and into his teens became a talented multi-instrumentalist mastering the fiddle, mandolin and guitar, all of which he performs on the new release. His 2009 release, Broken Hearted Beat, earned him awards and accolades including COCA Emerging Artist of the Year and recognition internationally including Australia. The momentum won’t be slowing down soon, with an Australian tour set for December following Chaisson’s national tour with Poor Young Things. Tour dates and download links below.

Coffee Shop Project: Pick Of The Month – Brad Fillatre

Audio Blood

presents

The Coffee Shop Project

With October comes pumpkin spice lattes and a new pick of the month! This month the Coffee Shop Project presents Newfoundland's Brad Fillatre.
Formerly known for his work in the critically acclaimed east coast band, The Evelyn Room, Brad Fillatre has developed a name for himself as a talented songwriter and a powerful lyricist. His upcoming solo EP, For Your Weakness, will be his first release since his band's last album in 2009. For this collection of personal and intimate tracks, he returns to his roots for inspiration from life, love, and loss. Fillatre spent much of his early years travelling along the dark forests and rugged terrain of the North Atlantic coastline of Newfoundland because of his family's funeral business. Drawing from this, For Your Weakness is rich with emotion and imagery. The album's intricate mix of strings, both electric and acoustic, coupled with haunting production and his unique vocal performance conjures up comparisons to such artists as Ryan Adams, Elliott Smith and Bon Iver.
Brad Filltare will release his debut solo EP, For Your Weakness, on October 16th and on October 17 will celebrate with a performance at the Drake Undergound in Toronto. Get a free download of his first single, "New Tattoo" in advance by visiting any one of the below independent coffee shops and picking up a Coffee Shop Project download card!
Visit Brad Fillatre online for news, tour dates, videos and more!

Coffee Shop Project (CSP) is an Audio Blood initiative and aims to promote independent music with like-minded people in independent places. Launched in September 2011, CSP stands and download cards can now be found in 17 coffee shops across Toronto.

The Mohawk Lodge Announce October 23 Release Date for New Album Damaged Goods

The Mohawk Lodge will be launching their much anticipated new album Damaged Goods on October 23rd. The musical collective headed by Ryder Havdale, who also owns and manages White Whale Records, is based in Berlin at the moment but grew up in Vancouver. Exclaim.ca will be streaming the album a week before the release date.

Havdale began work on the album shortly after returning from a European tour. He isolated himself in a cabin with the fragments of the 16-track full-length and emerged from the woods with an album brimming with voodoo, summer nights, long drives and near-death experiences. Havdale returned to Toronto and teamed up with the latest touring incarnation of The Mohawk Lodge; Eamon McGrath, Clay Jones (Huddle), Danny Miles and Peter Dreimanis (July Talk), recorded Damaged Goods during a heatwave. Their finest offering to date, Damaged Goods was finalized by producer Jordan Koop (Emergency Room) at his new Noise Floor studio in Ladysmith, BC.

The Mohawk Lodge is currently on tour in Europe, including dates in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK. The band will embark on a Canadian tour in support of Damaged Goods in spring, 2013. Sometimes compared with alt-rock standouts Constantines, Hold Steady and Gaslight Anthem, The Mohawk Lodge turn out anthemic hooks and pop licks, delivered with the spirit of punk: short, sweaty and full of grit. Their body of work continues to conjure references to the likes of Fugazi, Swervedriver, The Boss and Neil Young. Damaged Goods is the follow-up to 2010’s critically acclaimed Crimes. The Mohawk Lodge has been featured on Uncut magazine’s mixtape, and Vue magazine described their work as “a glossy yet grubby, obsidian-dark version of soul music, a startling, punchy, modern reworking of the genre that entirely suits Havdale’s rich, raggedly emotive voice.”

Damaged Goods will be released on 180-gram vinyl and digitally. The album is available for pre-orders now.

In late-August The Balconies and Hands & Teeth met at the Verge Music Labs for a marathon creative recording session hosted and produced by the minds behind The Mojito Sessions. The Mojito Sessions is a project spearheaded by Toronto's Mojito Mastering which brings two unique artists together in the studio to create a live off the floor recording and chronicle the journey in a flawless video care of Southern Souls. The result is not only a memorable experience for the artists, but an unfortgetable cover song for fans alike. Taking Justin Bieber's already irresistable track, The Balconies and Hands & Teeth put their spin on it with richly layered 5-piece harmonies and a feel-good arrangement that gives 'Baby' an indie edge that's guaranteed repeat plays.

This fall The Balconies are hitting the road for an extensive Canadian tour with Wide Mouth Mason and Big Sugar after representing Canada at FILTER Magazine's Culture Colllide Festival in Los Angeles, California. Hands & Teeth will have been busy working on their new concept album (slated for a winter release) and will be attending this year's Halifax Pop Explosion.

“Reckon” & “Essential Cuts” Album Cover + Photos: http://arts-crafts.ca/artistspage.php?search=Jason%20Collett

“Reckon”
Political. Personal. Poetic.  Such is the gorgeous new album from one of Canada’s very best songwriters, Jason Collett.
“The consistent thread throughout this record is loss. The love songs are largely emotive reflections of the ‘political’ songs. All written through the distillation of events since the economic calamity of 2008 and it’s insidiously long looming shadow. I’ve seen first hand the kind of devastation this crisis has wrecked upon much of the world I’ve toured these last few years. The shut-down-shops and for-closed homes on the suburban fringes as I’ve made my way to and from cities I’ve played. This record is a personal reflection of the crisis we’ve all witnessed and read about every day in the paper. Calling it Reckon is an acknowledgement of loss ... lost jobs, lost homes, loss of faith in our political and financial institutions and in turn, loss of illusion.
It seems politics are unavoidable if you choose to write about or engage with the world in front of you. I didn’t set out to make a record with these overtones, but neither did I try to stop it. I just did my best to avoid the shrill rhetoric that makes most political songwriting unlistenable.
There’s a poetic serendipity to the fact that I started recording this record during the same month that Occupy Wall Street began. I have felt a genuine solidarity with the passion of this movement in these precarious and volatile times.”
Recorded at Revolution Recording Studios in Toronto, the album was produced by Howie Beck and includes guest appearances by Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Basia BulatKevin Drew & Zeus.

“Essential Cuts”

Included with “Reckon” is an eleven song retrospective “Essential Cuts”.  Chosen by Jason himself these songs represent the sense of community that he has always held in such high regard.

“With a little help from my friends indeed ... There’s a revolving door cast of characters that make this a sweet selection of the back catalogue. The myriad of producers and players that have graced these recordings are a testament to the blessed incestuousness of the musical family I’m lucky to be part of. From the production of long time friends Andrew Cash, Howie Beck and the Zeus boys to the multiple talents from Broken Social Scene et al – Tony Scherr, Feist, Emily Haines, Amy Millan, Bahamas … It’s essentially a family affair.”
