Cadence Weapon Announces Tour, Releases New Album

May 18, 2012 in Alberta, Edmonton, Montreal, Music, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Toronto by Andrew_Horan

Cadence Weapon, the one-time poet laureate of Edmonton and 2006 Polaris Prize nominee, has just announced a tour in support of his upcoming album Hope In Dirt City, out on May 29th.

Rollie Pemberton as he’s known to his family and friends kicked off a tour of Europe with Japandroids today. The tour will touch down in Canada in late June.

Hope In Dirt City is the long-awaited follow-up to Pemberton’s acclaimed 2008 album Afterparty Babies. Pemberton took an interesting approach to writing the album, employing samples then turning to live musicians to interpret his musical vision. He then turned the band-recorded tracks into samples. He says he wanted to blur the line from where the sample ends and the band begins.

Sonically, the release blends psychedelic soul, old school rap, IDM and mutant disco along with Pemberton’s new found sense of maturity.
