Montreal’s Doldrums, the electronic music project from Airick Woodhead, formerly of Toronto’s Spiral Beach, has just released Egypt, a three-track 12-inch.

MTL-based label Arbutus Records teamed up with Berlin’s Souterrain Transmissions to put out the recording, Woodhead just completed a European tour with labelmate and frequent collaborator Grimes. He’s heading back out on the road with Unknown Mortal Orchestra as he prepares to play NXNE and other summer music festivals.

Egypt is described as recontextualizing the “desperation” of the Montreal noise scene into an eight minute warehouse club jam with Woodhead’s androgynous voice coming across in the middle of a panic attack floating in a sea of chopped up samples, disembodied vocals and primal percussion that’s meant to bring to mind an ancient, crumbling civilization.
