Bran Van 3000 Singer Running for the NDP in Montreal
Although they only produced a few albums, with many years in between new releases, Montreal’s Bran Van 3000 has become legendary. The band was difficult to nail down to any specific genre. They seemed to glide between them from one song to the next while still producing albums full of tracks that fit together to make a cohesive whole. Bran Van’s singer Stéphane Moraille has managed to transition from singer, to lawyer and now, maybe, to Member of Parliament for the NDP.
From CBC News:
“Moraille, a native of Haiti, is a lawyer in arts and communications and has been with the law firm of Lussier & Khouzan since 2006. With Bran Van 3000, Moraille sang lead on the band’s biggest hit, “Drinking in LA” and won several awards, including a Juno for “Glee” in 1998. NDP Leader Tom Mulcair said he was honoured to have a candidate such as Moraille running in what has been a Liberal stronghold riding, calling Moraille a strong female candidate with a high profile in the arts community.”
