New Off the International Radar EP & Holy Fuck collaboration (w/ video)
Off the International Radar (OTIR) has signed with Hand Drawn Dracula and has a new EP ready to hit the world on September 13.
The new EP (the bands fourth) features Holy Radar a reworking of OTIR's "E bowl of Iris" . Holy Fuck sped up the original recording on a record player in studio and then played along and added their own layers. That means that you will be able to play the vinyl (if you play vinyl) at either 33 1/3 or 45 rpm and each will yield a different version of the song.
Watch the OTIR Myspace for details on getting your hands on the new release and, if you're in the neighborhood catch OTIR at:

Rifflandia adds wristband connect to sweeten the pot
You may already be aware, but coming up in less than a month is Rifflandia in Victoria, BC. I thought this would be a good time to remind people to get things setup to attend what is looking to be one amazing festival. The full line-up is here and it’s looking intense from great local bands like Hank & Lily, the Raccoons and the Pack AD to bigger Canadian acts such as Holy Fuck, Pink Mountaintops and Tegan & Sara, Brendan Canning will even be doing a DJ set. With a line-up like this wristbands are a bargain at $62.50 but not only do these wristbands get you great music, they’ll grab you a bunch of savings all over Victoria with the Wristband Connect deals Rifflandia has set up. This is especially sweet for those of you living in Victoria as the deals are good till the end of September, sounds like you can take advantage of them the minute you get your wristband. To me, this is an awesome bonus as food, drink & accommodation bills can really stack up at a festival so any relief to the wallet is welcome.
Julie Fader Finally Finds Center Stage with Outside In
Julie Fader's first solo album Outside In is due out on September 8 and this is one you are definitely going to want to watch for. I don't really write 'reviews'. This is, after all, the internet and no matter what words I use to praise or damn something all you have to do is listen to decide if it's for you or not and, in a bit, I'll give you the chance to listen and decide. But Julie Fader is already, in a way, a household name though you may not have heard it.
Julie is a regular member of the Great Lake Swimmers. Her talents have also been enlisted by people like Sarah Harmer, Chad Van Gaalen and Attack in Black to make them sound better on stage and in the studio. Julie has also shared the stage with Dan Mangan, Jill Barber, Justin Rutledge, Basia Bulat, Hayden, Greg Keelor, Cuff the Duke, Bruce Cockburn and Feist (amoung others).
"Julie's fragile, lovely tunes were bolstered (albeit gently) by her band that included Sarah Harmer on drums and vocals, Paul Lowman (Cuff the Duke) on bass, and Pete Hall (A Northern Chorus) on electric guitar, pedal steel and some stunning harmonies of his own. The Sexiest Man in Indie Rock (as voted by you!), Peter Elkas, joined Julie on the last song for a little nod to Neil Young.
As if that fabulous foursome on stage weren't enough, the audience consisted of Ron Sexsmith, Bob Wiseman, Justin Rutledge, Matt Barber, and members of By Divine Right and Cuff the Duke."
For her first effort, there is her producer Graham Walsh, a member of Holy Fuck and a man who's production and engineering credits include albums by Brian Borcherdt, Sarah Harmer, A Northern Chorus and Mayor McCa. Beyond walsh, Chad VanGaalen, Tony Dekker, Brian Borcherdt, Sarah Harmer, and Justin Rutledge all pitched in on vocals. Pete Hall (A Northern Chorus) contributed drums, guitar and lap steel, Erik Armesen (Great Lake Swimmers) played banjo, Erin Aurich (Hey Rosetta!) did the violin. Dean Stone (Apostle of Hustle) and Daniel Romano (Attack in Black) also cotributed to the drums. Fader herself plays guitar, wurlitzer, flute and melodica in addition to her always angelic vocals.
In short I'm not trying to tell you to rush out and buy this album because I said so. What I'm telling you is that Sarah Harmer, Holy Fuck, the Great Lake Swimmers, Cuff the Duke, Bob Wiseman, Ron Sexsmith, Justin Rutledge, Matt Barber, Jill Barber, Dan Mangan, By Divine Right, A Northern Chorus, Chad Van Gaalen, Attack in Black, Hey Rosetta!, Apostle of Hustle and others will be in line to buy the album so, if the respect of other musicians, a whole lot of other musicians, means anything to you Outside In is an album that should be firmly on your radar.

A History of Wavelength According to Brian Borchert
Via Wavelength" Wavelenth is a music series with a long and storied history that takes place at Sneaky Dees. City Sonic is a "series of stories about extraordinary artists hot in places where their musical lives were transformed."Brian Borchert is a singer, songwriter, musician, and Holy Fucker. He has drawn this detailed graphic presentation to explain the history of the Wavelength Series:
Back in February CBC Radio 3 announced that Windsor's Phog Lounge was the winner of their searchlight contest for the "Best Live Music Venue" in Canada. Between February and July the Radio 3 folks worked with the Phog folks to put together a mini-festival to celebrate Phog's win. The final lineup included Square Root of Margaret, Yellow Wood, Megan Hamilton and the Volunteer Canola, the Kramdens, Fjord Rowboat, and Green Go, the Arkells and Holy Fuck - all of whom you can hear on the latest CBC Radio 3 Sessions Podcast.
July 9th was my favorite night of Ottawa Bluesfest. It was better than Day 1 mostly because I knew the bands/musicians that were playing on Day 2. I had a great time running over from stage to stage.
The acts that I got to see: Kyrie Kristmanson Kyrie was totally amazing live. She wore her famous white fuzzy hat during Song X but took it off after it. Nice to see her back from France for the summer.
Holy Fuck Loved hearing Milkshakes and some new tracks. They were absolutely amazing live and I was happy to catch Lovely Allen at the end.
Metric Seen them alot of times now. Glad that they sang "Help! I'm Alive" live.
Iron & Wine I wish I got to stay longer for his set. Sad that I missed out on Such Great Heights

Rifflandia Music Fest Earlybird Wristbands and Lineup Announced!
So last year Victoria got a new music festival, it went by the name of Rifflandia and it rocked. I unfortunately did not get to go as I decided to enjoy the Yukon for a few extra days before it was back to school. This year however I fully intend on enjoying what will no doubt be a stellar festival full of fantastic talent. The festival will run September 24 - 27th and will feature the mad skillz of Tegan & Sara, Holy Fuck, Buck 65, Mother Mother, Champion, Final Fantasy, Beach House, Shad, Pink Mountaintops, and Mt. Saint Helens Vietnam Band(I hope all those links work, they took way too long to do) with more names to be announced on July 15th. Right now a limited quantity of earlybird wristbands have been released and will be available till July 14th. Wristbands will run you about 50 bucks including fees and are totally worth it. They'll get you into every venue as well as some bonus perks. Also Rifflandabrau will be brewed once again for your enjoyment and some special "twists" like the Rifflandia Drama Club and as well as an official festival magazine/guide book to be released in mid August.
And that's not all, Rifflandia is being held as a sister event to Transmission, an international music conference for all the movers and shakers of the industry. It looks to be pretty interesting and hopefully I'll be able to grab an invite for that so I can let you know what its all about.
All in all it looks like a pretty darn exciting weekend in Victoria. For more info you can check out the Rifflandia site here and the Transmission site here.
You may think the name is inappropriate - sit through a show and you'll change your mind. Check out Holy Fuck at these spots!

Holy Fuck and the Chrysler commercial. Imagine my surprise, as I'm walking into the house with freshly grilled chicken and I hear Holy Fuck on TV. I almost dropped the plate as I ran to the TV to witness a Chrysler commercial that I believe was :60 long. I have since found and seen two different :30 versions of what I saw. I think YouTube might have these in a few hours. Great spots, GREAT music...I thought to myself; Holy Fuck, Holy Fuck in a commercial? My link is as follows: www.autoblog.com/2009/05/08/chrysler-reveals-more-facets-of-we-build-campaign I would have embedded it, but was unable. Holy Fuck: Phog Lounge Sat July 11 As reported on this site and www.thephogblog.blogspot.com Holy Fuck will headline a day-long event at the Phog Lounge, CBC Radio 3's Searchlight "Best Live Venue In Canada" winner. Two more bands are TBA. Two stages and non-stop music is the theme of the day; sun, fun & MUSIC! The street will be closed and I expect Tom & Frank to blow the bricks off the buildings with the music and food and hospitality. Windsor Endowment For The Arts, Common Ground Gallery, Art Gallery of Windsor, Lebel Art School at the University of Windsor, and Artspeak Gallery will benefit from the exposure as the Phog has a Penske/Ilitch-like
love for their city and it's artists. This is beyond love, this is commitment.
