The Beatdown sign to Stomp Records and announce tour in support of Spring full length release

Jamming news for ska and reggae fans, Montreal's The Beatdown (ex-One Night Band members) have signed with Stomp Records (Johnstones, Saint Alvia, Creepshow) and will be releasing their debut album in April 2010.

Previous project "One Night Band" is currently on a break, but singer/guitarist Alex Giguere has been keeping busy. Joining forces with Giguere is ONB bass player Pascal Lesieur, ex-drummer Nicolas Fizzano and friend Jovanny Savoie they are The Beatdown. Expect pure reggae, ska with soul, and a punk edge.

The four-piece spent the fall recording in Montreal at Indygene Studios and frontman Giguère, who's worked with bands such as The Planet Smashers, Staylefish, One Night Band, and RDC, produced the forthcoming record. The 12 tracks that make up the full-length features well-known musicians including Larry Love and Patty (One Night Band) and Josh Fuhrman (the Kingpins).

The Beatdown will be spending most of their time on the road, playing their contagious reggae/ska with new and old fans alike. The Beatdown will be hitting the road in January across Quebec and Ontario before heading over to Europe for a month-long tour. In their short time together as a band, The Beatdown have already played at the Montreal International Reggae Festival, Montreal Ska Festival, Ottawa Ska Fest, Festival du bout du monde in Gaspé and has backed Jamaican singer Vernon Maytone and toured with The Johnstones, The Slackers, U-Roy
, and Green Room Rockers, just to name a few. So fans of indie music and ska/reggae, will probably dig the unique sounds of The Beatdown.

Owl Farm at the Indie Attic - Video

November 4th 2009 the Indie Attic stage was graced by Kingston Ontario's Owl Farm. This energetic 4 piece played an awesome mix of indie rock, psychedelic musings and stories about good, evil, and lobsters.

The night was a fantastic roller-coaster of entertainment with some amazing lead vocals from Owl Farm's organist JP, accompanied on back up vocals by non other than the band's drummer Jay. Matt and Chris kept it tight on Bass and Guitar through a awesomely rockin' set that you just couldn't possibly get through sitting still.

Titan Rain - Indie Attic - Video

Running with the Acoustic Halloween theme at the Indie Attic Oct 28th, Ottawa's own Titan Rain played a stripped down acoustic set for the audience. The duo played a beautiful set of heart wrenching tunes that had the audience in a trance.

Fabien, the lead singer and founder of Titan Rain sang straight from the heart with a gravelly voice that made the ladies swoon. While Phil harmonized with Fabien just beautifully, both vocally and on guitar. Making their Halloween inspired set a wonderful combination of subtle complexities.

Unplugged and Undead - Indie Attic - Video

When you take away the amps, the electric guitars... the drums, bassist and pretty much everything else from a Metal band that actually makes it metal... You'd be finding your self listening to Unplugged and Undead. Darren and Christina started this acoustic project earlier this year, and joined us at the Indie Attic Stage for our Halloween Party with their second Live performance!

With a fantastic mix of dark and sultry, all wrapped up in glamorously creepy attire. As a duo they make a great pair on stage with Darren bringing the energy to the acoustic, as Christina mesmerizes the audience with her charm.

Gini Sigler - Indie Attic - Video

On October 21st, the lovely and talented Gini Sigler won the hearts of the Indie Attic audience with her gorgeous smile and absolutely amazing voice! Gini's set at the attic was just "woman plus guitar" done in its purest form... But with a talent for playing and a voice so rich the room was filled with her vibrance.

After taking a break from the stage, this Indie Attic performance was Gini's first since May 2009, when she performed as part of a benefit concert in support of a little girl Lillian who needed a heart transplant with the Canadian congenital heart alliance. And now After over a year of writing and recording her upcoming album "The Tiger Lily Tombstone", we can expect a new set of shows in the new year in support of her new release. I think that 2010 will definitely be seeing a lot more of this very talented songstress

The Termights - The Indie Attic Video

Photo by: Heather Farmer - Indie Buzz Werks

What would happen if you combined The Monkeys with Blur and Weezer plus the drama of the Cabaret while wearing some fake mustaches? It would look and sound a lot like Ottawa's hilarious indie rock troop the Termights!

The comedic four piece sang their tunes Oct 21st at the Cajun Attic about being broke, pretty girls, and just how much life can suck… ideas that we can all relate to. But while their lyrics take a look at all the sad ironies of life, their music lifts it up and delivers the story with an energy and beat that puts a smile on your face and gets the whole audience moving.

Sly Violet - The Indie Attic Video

Photo Heather Farmer: Indie Buzz Werks

October 21st at the Indie Attic the folk rock duo from Lyndsay Ontario Sly Violet graced the Cajun Attic stage. Their laid back and gentle demeanor could be felt all through out the room as the soft-spoken pair poured all their energy into their unique blend of modern folk. Violet enchanted the audience with her sincere and passionate delivery as she skillfully coaxed her acoustic guitar to sing along with her. While Sly slipped into the the trance of the beat as he played his beautiful stand up cocktail drum kit.

The duo is currently on tour traveling across Ontario, stay tuned into their MySpace to see when Sly Violet may be playing a venue near you!
