The NxEW Mixtape Episode 1

This is the first episode of what I'm calling the NxEW Mixtape Podcast. It is 60 minutes of music without commentary (no talking just music.) It is a mix of old stuff and new stuff but I hope you enjoy. Comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

I'd like to thank everyone who allowed me to use their music for this (as well as future episodes.) The response so far has been enormous and episode 2 is already taking shape nicely. Please support the artists who make this possible by buying some music, going to shows, buying t-shirts and otherwise showing them some love.

download the MP3

or

download the torrent (and please seed)

The track list for episode 1 goes like this:

Hey Justin.

First, great podcast. Nice way to finish off my work week.

Second, I understand that you want to keep the podcast off iTunes so that people have the information about the band, but couldn't you create chapters for the songs, so that all the information is contained on the iPod/iTunes screen as the song is playing? And also have the .pdf as part of the podcast subscription (I know some of the "learn a language" podcasts do that?

I only ask because iTunes is a huge market, and the more people get exposed to these bands the better....

Haven't figured out how to make my software do chapters yet, but I want to have the links in there too. I may have to use Itunes eventually (but at that point the podcast will need it's own separate feed for iTunes benefit) and I generally don't want to encourage iTunes use. It's great as an audio player but they don't treat artists well. (some get as little as 4 cents for a 99 cent download).

Fair point. Kind of a Catch 22-- you want to support the audience by exposing them to a mass audience, but the best tool for doing that isn't very good at supporting the artist. Good luck!

If someone on this site has a Mac, then they have Garageband, which is GREAT for podcasts. Super super easy to add chapters and images and links. My goodness, they can turn a regular ol' podcast and make it totally pro. I highly encourage it. You don't even need to use iTunes for it to work. Host it on archive.org or something, that's what I always did. You can play 'em in your browser with all the chapters still in tact! Perfect!
