Rebekah Higgs Makes Radio Hosting Debut on CKDU

You might know her as Rebekah Higgs or you might know her as Ruby Jean - in either case she made her debut as a radio host today on CKDU in Halifax, talked about the Polaris Prize, talked about inventing words, told some drinking stories and played some of her favorite Canadian bands, plus some of her favorite comedy, and had an interview with Jon McKiel (alot of stuff crammed into 90 minutes). Pure Awesomeness!

I've also just gotten word that Rebekah will be doing it again on CKDU from 2:30 - 4 (Atlantic Time) - next tuesday, so put it in your calendar and tune in (from anywhere in the world online if you don't happen to live in Halifax.)

You can download the .pls file (to add it to your iTunes radio stations) at http://ckdu.dal.ca/ckdu-hi.pls!

You can also use this groovy tool - which lets you pick segments of CKDU programming by time slot and stream it or download it (remember Atlantic time zone). That's how I can easily do this:

Listen to Rebekah Higgs Radio Debut (a little extra on the beginning and end)

or download it http://ckdu.dal.ca/20090714.14.39-16.03.mp3. (I don't know how long they keep these archives for - if it doesn't work drop an email to nothbyeastwest at gmail.com - I'll have a copy.)

You might also want to check out this (if you listen to the show you'll know why).

Private Metric Shows In Western Canada

From their blog:

Big News!

Jimmy and I just agreed to do a series of 5 private acoustic appearances in Western Canada at the end of the month with support from some local radio stations in each of the cities we're going to visit... but there is a twist. There won't be any tickets sold for these shows. Originally, the only way to get in was going to be through radio station contests, but since we're going to be passing through and we always want to take care of you guys, we decided to move the shows into slightly bigger venues, while still keeping it totally intimate, so we can give out some tickets directly to fans. There are very few tickets available, so click here to enter to win.

We're also holding back some tickets for people who pre-ordered the record directly from us. Half of them will go exclusively to those who pre-ordered the deluxe limited edition, and the other half will go to anyone who bought any one of the Fantasies packages. These tickets will be randomly distributed.

For anyone who can't make it or doesn't end up being able to get tickets, don't worry, we're planning another massive Canadian tour for later this year.

I won tickets just now from a Vancouver radio station The Peak after calling for days and days. Needless to say, I'm deliriously happy! (Sorry lioness.)

Cera Live on CFUR Radio

I believe I mentioned yesterday that Cera is some sort of post-hardcorey (I don't do genres well) that manages to stand outside of most of the heavy-but-not type of music that I generally don't like. They are also kind of a Prince George supergroup, taking players from old scenemaking bands in the Prince George arena. Perhaps one day I should do a post on them. But right now I'll just let you know that in anticipation of their show tomorrow, they are appearing on CFUR radio, the campus station of UNBC, on what I think could well be the station's longest-running show, Fur Gone Wild (hey, it's in the Thursday sweet spot, if CFUR was NBC and this was the late 90s, it would be Friends and Seinfeld).

Anyways, the band will be performing an acoustic set at 7:00 pm Pacific Time. If you're in Prince George, that's 88.7 fm, and for the rest of the world, you can check it streaming at cfur.ca.

Oh, and we just passed 100 posts here. Congrats everyone.
