NxEW Mixtape Podcast #14

Every week I say thank you to the artists and their reps who make this pod-cast possible by allowing us to use their music. In addition to dozens of individual artists, managers and publicists this now includes:

Mint Records, Six Shooter Records, (weewerk) records, Kelp Records, Outside Music, Young Soul Records, Endearing Records, Fuzzy Logic Recordings and (I think) Blocks Recording Club.

We started our, originally, with 30 volunteers (now grown to 115 +) with no budget. What we had was an idea, a sense of community, a shared enthusiasm for Canadian music and a desire to share that enthusiasm and promote the music we love. One of the things that has encouraged us and help us grow (in 4 months) into one of the most popular music sites in Canada is the speed and enthusiasm with which the Canadian music community rallied around us in turn.

With few exceptions everyone has been nothing but helpful, encouraging and cooperative. Beyond the podcast people have given us review copies of CDs, helped set up interviews, given us full media credentials (even when we were only a few weeks old) and, in general, have helped with anything we needed. Many musicians, promoters and others involved in the music business have gone beyond the call and signed on as contributors to the site. All of this not only helps with the fact that we still have no budget, but also serves to reaffirm the faith in the Canadian music community that lead to the creation of the site in the first place.

Again thank you for helping us to help you. It is that loop I think that separates the Canadian music community from everyone else and makes the Canadian music business successful at home and abroad at a level completely disproportionate to our population.

Enjoy #14!
